OF ICE AND MOUNTAINS

Spend seven days traveling from Anchorage (Whittier) to Vancouver, B.C., stopping in historic port cities like Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway. Along the way, enjoy two glacier-viewing experiences on every itinerary – including Glacier Bay National Park, and Hubbard Glacier or College Fjord. Set sail on the journey of a lifetime on a multi-day Alaska land and sea cruise package. This relaxing, all-inclusive experience is among the most preferred for travelers to Alaska, especially for their first trip. Cruise ships offer convenience, a wide range of services, and an ideal balance of relaxation and adventure.

Alaska Glaciers

Whether you're curious about Alaska native culture or other Alaska traditions, here's how to make these an integral part of your trip up north. Embark on a thrilling journey with young explorers through breathtaking landscapes. The best Alaska food to try on a cruise includes king crab, salmon, fry bread, birch syrup, wild berries and more. After traveling somewhere new, you want to bring something back with you to remember all of your fun adventures. The sheer size of Alaska lends itself to a wide variety of terrain and travel experiences.

SALMON IS CENTRAL

The latter have included access to the ship's Persian Garden thermal suite. On our June 2022 sailing, we found that the included excursions were hit and miss. The Gold Creek Salmon Bake in Juneau, however, was a dud -- we would have been better off eating on the ship or in town. Princess has been sailing Alaska for over 50 years, and with six ships, five wilderness lodges, and its own domed rail car, this cruise line knows the region well.

Best Places to Visit in Alaska

Even if you arrive at 3PM the day before your cruise, you will have around twenty hours in either city before embarkation begins. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of the best free and low-cost activities to do in each Alaska cruise port, which should help give you some ideas. The 2024 Alaska cruise season is quickly approaching, and we’re sharing 24 of our most helpful Alaska cruise tips that you need to follow. Norwegian, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean all have a range of perks for their top suites that can make booking one of these rooms closer to an all-inclusive experience.

Alaska National Parks

Ketchikan, Alaska is one of the best spots along Alaska's Inside Passage to explore the rich cultural sights of the Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian. Amble historic Creek Street, a boardwalk over a wide creek that fills with salmon during certain times of year. An elegant and spacious Alaska cruise ship with fresh floral arrangements and garden-inspired décor.

FULLY ESCORTED EXPERIENCES

On a cruise to Alaska, live a nature lover's dream in the land where guests can catch postcard-worthy sights. At first glance many mistake Victoria for an English coastal city or northern European town. Full of greenery, pubs and Victorian architecture, it's difficult to believe that this was a tent city full of rough and tumble miners just 150 years ago. On a cruise to Alaska, explore the Butchart Gardens, tour the pub scene and taste some of the local brews or sail the bay for a whale-watching adventure.

Top 10 Alaska Shore Excursions

Not all Royal Caribbean cruises in Alaska have an option to make your sailing all inclusive, but Quantum of the Seas ship, does. If you book a Star Class suite, you will receive a drink and specialty restaurant packages, as well as Wi-Fi and the butler services of a Royal Genie. The smaller Brilliance of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas do not offer Star Class suites. We were also not thrilled with the Hilton, the included hotel that Regent partners with in Anchorage. While there aren't a lot of choices in Anchorage before a cruise, we would have preferred the Captain Cook, which Princess and Holland America Line use for their cruise tours. Seattle is known as "The Emerald City" thanks to its green forests and lush surroundings.

Instead, consider a hotel near the airport so you can simply land and head straight to bed. For those arriving earlier in the day, though, it’s worth it to find a hotel downtown for easy access to tourist sites. UnCruise Adventures is another veteran expedition cruise line that really immerses you into the wilderness; you'll have opportunities to hike, kayak, paddleboard or snorkel (yes, snorkel!) almost every day. The ships are under 100 passengers, but luxury lovers need to know that the vessels are on the rustic side -- comfortable and cozy, not flashy and lavish. Your fare includes transfers and all drinks including alcohol (with plenty of local libations on tap), as well as use of all the outdoor gear. This is a particular good all-inclusive option if you're on an itinerary making lots of port stops.

Likewise, you could take a shuttle bus to Mendenhall Glacier in Juneau for $45 roundtrip, which is much cheaper than excursions booked through the cruise line. Don't splash out for a cruise with unlimited alcoholic beverages if the house wine or beer is just fine. Or if you'd prefer to choose your own excursions, you might want a line that has a lower base fare so you can put your money toward those pricey once-in-a-lifetime experiences. Holland America Line and Princess Cruises have long been the most established of the cruise lines sailing Alaska, with more than 75 and 50 years in the state respectively.

From ship to shore, the best is at your fingertips on our Alaska cruises. As your ship sails away from each port of call in Alaska, you will be rewarded with stunning views of the Inside Passage, and you won’t want to miss sailaway each evening. However, sailaway times often overlap with the early dining time, meaning you’ll miss these scenic sailings if you're in the Main Dining Room.

Some of the other amenities that come with an all-inclusive cruise in Alaska are more of a personal decision. Even people who love a drink packages on Caribbean cruises may find that they aren't partaking as much in Alaska, where you tend to take more strenuous outdoor excursions and get up earlier. There are several ways that you can design an all-inclusive cruise in Alaska. You can go on a luxury cruise ship where everything is included in the price. You can book an upscale or mainstream ship and stay in a suite that has more amenities bundled in the fare. Or you can go with a small expedition ship that might not have a fancy onboard experience, but which offers an up-close and personal adventure in Alaska's wild and remote places.

Take an Inside Passage cruise and gaze upward at the sky that is as blue as the lakes below. Hop on the Alaskan Railroad near Anchorage and see the spruce-lined, mountainous landscape whir by from a new perspective.

Most of the familiar mainstream cruise lines sail to Alaska and while none of them are all-inclusive when it comes to booking a standard cabin, that often changes if you book a suite. Other all-inclusive luxury lines that operate in Alaska are Silversea and Seabourn. Both lines have newer ships in Alaska -- Silversea has Silver Muse, in addition to the older Silver Whisper, while Seabourn Odyssey and the new expedition ship Seabourn Venture represents Seabourn. All ships are smaller than the 738-passenger Explorer, with Silver Muse carrying 596 guests and Silver Shadow much smaller at 388 passengers. There's a certain ease to paying one fare and not having to worry about individual charges.
